“It’s a toss-up between the Native Nations Medill Explores trip to Washington State, where our class had the opportunity to speak with tribal elders facing and adapting to a number of environmental challenges like sea level rise and declining crab fisheries, and my embedded reporting experience. For that, I got to spend a month in coastal Maryland at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, following scientists studying everything from salt marsh methane emissions to rare orchids.”
