Favorite Medill Memory
“Getting to spend a week in New Orleans with my Social Media Video News Reporting class for Medill Explores was really special. We each produced social media pieces that investigated various cultural aspects that were unique to the city. My group’s project focused on the differences and similarities between cajun and creole food, so we spent the majority of the week interviewing restaurateurs and historians who could detail exactly what defined these two cuisines and how they came to represent New Orleans gastronomy. Between taste testing shrimp po-boys and learning how to properly peel 10 lbs. worth of crawfish for “research purposes,” I think it’s safe to say this will forever be one of my favorite stories I’ve ever covered.”
